Generally, the town icicles are larger than the residential icicles.
We use a medium sized ( nine pound ) cat to determine the depth of snow. The cat walks all around up and down hills and reports back to us. According to the cat, we had about six inches of snow in the yard. There were some areas where drifting occurred, adding another inch or so.
